Malta is an idyllic island, surrounded by the wonders of the Mediterranean sea. Smaller
islands sit just offshore, some uninhibited but open for exploration. Whether you’re
appreciating the views from rocky cliffs, or sunbathing in dreamy coves, you’ll find yourself
with an abundance of opportunities to enjoy these famous tropical waters. Here are three
ways to explore and enjoy the Mediterranean sea whilst visiting Malta:

Explore local culture in Marsaxlokk:

This beautiful little fishing village is the perfect place to visit for a quintessentially Maltese
experience. Along the waters edge, you’ll find quaint restaurants serving the freshest fish
and seafood to locals and tourists alike. For a thorough cultural education, hop onto a
traditional fishing boat, called a luzzu or kajjik, with a local fisherman for a tour of the island.
If you can’t resist dipping your toes in the crystal-blue waters surrounding this picturesque
community, head to one of its secret coves and bays. There are four to be discovered, all
well off the beaten track and somewhat difficult to access. Nevertheless, you’ll be rewarded
with incredibly clear, deep waters and heavenly beaches.

Dive into the Blue Hole in Gozo

If you’re an adventurous diver, the Blue Hole of Gozo should definitely be on your
exploration list. This natural, cylindrical cave reaches approximately 15 metres below sea
level and is teeming with breathtaking sea-life. Found amidst exceptional rock formations,
the azure waters are irresistible. For those who seek a less exhilarating experience, there
are plenty of snorkelling, sunbathing and swimming opportunities to be found along Ramla
beach, just next to the hole.

Watch the sunset from the Dingli Cliffs

It’s hard to describe the awe-inspiring and humbling feeling that washes over you as you
watch the sun disappear into the vast expanse of the ocean. Arguably one of the best places
in the world to experience this is from the Dingli Cliffs in Malta. Sitting 250 meters above sea
level, with postcard perfect countryside behind you and nothing but the Mediterranean sea
ahead, the view is truly astounding.
